Hilton hotel group is just the latest in a long string of credit card fraud involving hotel brands, restaurants and retail establishments. Krebs, goes on to mention that “The Trump Hotel Collection said the breach affects customers who used their credit or debit cards at the hotels between May 19, 2014, and June 2, 2015.” The Trump Hotel Collection went on to release the following statement: “For customers that used credit or debit cards to make purchases between May 19, 2014, and June 2, 2015, we believe that the malware may have affected payment card data including payment card account number, card expiration date and security code.”
They go on to recommend, “reviewing your credit and debit card account statements as soon as possible in order to determine if there are any discrepancies or unusual activities listed. You should remain vigilant and continue to monitor your statements for unusual activity going forward. If you see anything you do not understand or that looks suspicious, or if you suspect that any fraudulent transactions have taken place, you should call the bank that issued your credit or debit card immediately.
Many U.S based banks are making a decision to move to chip and signature based cards instead of pin-based cards.
